From Fat to Fit and everything in between

Today, I would like to share a little story about my friend Mama Laughlin. I came to know this beautiful woman a few years ago and she is such an amazing person. She is a mother to one handsome little 19 month old and just recently found out she is pregnant with #2.

Her journey through a pregnancy that packed on the pounds to where she is now is simply inspiring.

Enjoy...

Isn't being a woman great?

Let me explain- I am a mother of 1, soon to be 2.

After my son was born on 09.09.09 (I know, cool) I managed to lose 60 lbs. That's not including the 19 I had already lost just by birthing him.

I didn't gain a crazy amount of weight with my pregnancy, only 31 lbs. But sitting at 186 lbs. PRE-pregnancy on my 5'6 frame, I was clearly overweight.

So yes, your math serves you correct and that made me 217 lbs. at delivery.

FUN!

I did not live a healthy lifestyle before getting pregnant. Don't get me wrong, I wasn't addicted to drugs or in any way hurting my baby, I had just been neglecting my body.

Feeding it with crap food and sitting on my fat, swollen ass.

So why would I all of a sudden start eating healthy now that I was pregnant? NO WAY! The way I looked at it was pregnancy was a reason for me to stuff my face. And that I did.

I had ice cream every night before bed, I drank cokes, I ate fast food for lunch every day, HEALTHY was not in my vocabulary. I also got in zero movement.

The most I moved was to the kitchen to get something to eat!

So after I kicked and screamed and sweated my way back to 140 lbs. in a year's time I decided I wasn't going to do that again when the time came for baby number 2.

Well it's that time.

I now have a 19 month old and am pregnant again.

Losing that weight the first time was one of things I'm most proud of in my life. I did it the right way, the healthy way. And it paid off.

Pre-pregnancy this time, I sat at around 145 lbs. So with this pregnancy it is crazy to think that I won't even get up to my PRE-pregnancy weight last time(186) at my heaviest.

At least, I hope not! My goal this time is to only gain 25-30 lbs.

With this pregnancy I will continue to workout. I take a cardio/strength training class two times a week now and plan to start Zumba afterward. I also walk/run a few times a week.

I am planning to stay active right up until D-day (delivery day) this go round. Which by the way is 11.17.11 (we're hoping for an 11.11.11 baby because we have an obsession with cool dates!)

As far as food goes, before I got pregnant I was lean eating, thanks to Anna.

I was trying to tone up and was eating no carbs or sugar. It was intense. Obviously, I can't eat like that now, so I've incorporated carbs (and some sugar) back into my diet.

I do give in to cravings every now and then, but I don't go overboard like I did last time.

I'll have ONE Reeses instead of 6 now, or an individual small ice cream instead of a gallon.

It's all about moderation.

I have given up caffeine so I'm drinking much more water (and peeing way too many times to count).
I really do believe that staying active this time will make it that much easier to lose the baby weight.

Did you know that research shows that if you workout during pregnancy you don't gain that extra 7 lbs? I'm sure hoping that applies to me this time!

I'm keeping track of my pregnancy on my blog and talking all things fitness/health while pregnant with #2, so come watch me pack on the pounds and gear up to lose it all...again

I also gained 50lbs, not pretty after the delivery. It also took me a good six months to knock off the majority of the weight with psycho Nazi speedwalking and serious dieting. Gisele should be eye gouged for losing it all in three months.Hooker.
